Good morning, oh yes my son is 8 years old, before his eyes he had no problems, suddenly looked small next to me when I noticed that the lower eyelids on the left side of the crease were less like a bit swollen resulting in eyelashes into the eyes, I had go to a pediatrician, check in his eyesight is good just said the doctor must have an eyelid surgery because the hair that goes in is a bit much, I’m a little horrified because it’s still small, so I want to ask if there is no other way than surgery because before the child’s eyelids I don’t mind, will the eyelid get normal again by itself? Thank you in advance.

Hello Kevinvoel,

Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.

Swelling in the lower eyelid that causes the eyelashes to grow protruding into the can be categorized as entropion. This condition can indeed be very disturbing, because the eyelashes that protrude into the eye can cause irritation, and the eyes will feel sore, runny, reddish, and feel lumpy to disturb the vision. This condition can occur due to muscle weakness around the eyes, formation of scar tissue around the eye (for example after injury or surgery), infection (trachoma), inflammation due to other causes (eg dry skin, contact dermatitis), or also due to developmental disorders since birth .

Handling in entropion cases can be done in a variety of ways depending on the cause and severity. In mild cases, administration of drugs, Botox injections, installation of special plasters, to the stitching of the eyelid outwards can be done to improve the condition of the eye. However, if you feel the case is quite severe, the doctor may also recommend surgery.

The selection of the best treatment for patients with entropion should ideally be done directly by the doctor or ophthalmologist who checks. Therefore, you try to consult your child's condition directly to the nearest ophthalmologist. With proper management, most cases of entropion can recover well and do not leave dangerous complications in the future. At this time, you should not over-hold your child's eye area, especially with dirty hands. Also avoid pulling or pulling out the eyelashes that protrude in any way. To minimize swelling in the lower eye, you can compress your child's eyes with warm or cold water (ask the child which feels most comfortable).

Hope this helps ...
