Feeling Sad Everyday, Is It Depression?
Hello doctor. I want to ask. Actually, do I have depression? I was sad almost every day, and I often felt that I was elder by my parents. This happened when I started working at my parents’ place. In addition, I sometimes feel that I am not needed in my workplace or in my place of worship. They kept me away, including my parents. I sometimes like to think of ending life. I have also slept, even from a long time ago. Sometimes, when I wake up, I often think about whether I am still needed in this world. Indeed, I was a victim of bullying, and I used to be bullied often in my place of worship. Does that also affect my stress? I started thinking about ending my life from about 15 years old, at that time I tried to end my life in the bathroom, but it failed. Every time I wanted to express what I experienced emotionally, I was yelled at instead. I was scolded. And I always say that I am insane and always tell me to go, even though my mother is a doctor, how does she not realize that her own child is in this condition? Indeed, my solution has been to pray, then sleep. I am sad, I always sleep. Is that wrong? I need help. I also always think about how to end my life, even as I write this. I don’t know what else to do with my life.
Hello Ferren Ashley,
Depression is a disorder of mood which is characterized by the main symptoms of depressive affect, loss of interest and feeling of joy, reduced energy which has the effect of fatigue and decreased activity. Other symptoms that can appear are decreased attention / concentration, decreased self-confidence, guilt and worthlessness, gloomy future outlook, suicidal thoughts or self-injury, sleep disturbance, decreased appetite.
A person can be diagnosed with a depressive disorder if in the examination at least the patient experiences 2 of 3 main symptoms plus at least 2 of the other symptoms for a minimum of 2 weeks duration. Sufferers can experience difficulties in work and social relationships. Can also be accompanied by somatic symptoms, such as aches throughout the body, insomnia, baldness, weight loss, nausea, or even vertigo and fever as you feel. These somatic symptoms are only accompanying, to establish the most important depressive symptom is the presence of the main symptoms.
Bullying itself is a form of superior feeling that is used to intimidate others in the form of verbal as well as physical violence. Bullying in any form is FALSE and in some cases the perpetrators can get LEGAL sanctions. Victims of bullying will experience many negative effects such as mental disorders that result in disruption of daily activities.
Depressed individuals need comprehensive therapy, not only from administering antidepressant drugs but also to good counseling and support system therapy. If the family environment is not conducive, you can participate in the community in other places of worship better. You can take part in volunteering or volunteer activities, in these activities you will usually help people whose lives are far less fortunate than what you already have now. In volunteering activities you can develop the interests and talents you have, the skills of socializing, and of course the smallest work you do there, you will benefit the people you help. Never feel your presence in this world is meaningless, maybe sometimes you are tired, just want to die, but actually there are many other people out there who are worse off and need your help. You can also try to travel to new places, meet new people, try to shape your new, more positive character. Explore the talents that you have, for example writing, drawing, playing music, singing and then try to elaborate on your talents, by producing works, maybe you will be more able to vent and pour your emotions in it. Further counseling with a psychiatrist is of course also needed so that the doctor can help further management.
Thus the explanation from me, may be useful.
