Ferritin Is Normal But Hemoglobin Is Low At 37 Weeks Pregnant?
I want to ask, I am currently 37 weeks pregnant, check HB 9.5, check that ferritin is normal, why is that?
Hello Nellaayuk, thank you for asking at HealthReplies.com.
Hb or hemoglobin is a component of the blood that plays an important role for distributing oxygen throughout the body and the examination is carried out to see what levels of hemoglobin in the blood.
Normally, during pregnancy, blood in the body experiences dilution due to increased fluid levels in the body so that it can cause hemoglobin levels to be examined to be lower when compared to other women who are not pregnant.
However, low hemoglobin levels in pregnant women can also be caused by lack of iron intake due to more intake than women who are not pregnant, intake of other nutrients or lack of bleeding that is happening.
Ferritin examination itself is to see the iron reserves in the body, for the levels themselves in people with low hemoglobin do not always have to be abnormal, because as explained above, the cause of decreased hemoglobin levels in pregnant women does not always have to be due to iron the less.
Therefore, for further therapy, you should further consult with your obstetrician to adjust to your current condition. Also take care of your daily food intake with enough nutritious and balanced food so that your nutritional needs and the fetus daily are fulfilled.
I hope this helps.
