Fever Is More Than 3 Days?
Hello. I’m Dwi Ayu from Palembang. my child’s age is now 16m with 11.2kg bb. now with fever, body temperature above 38’c. after being given paracetamol the heat goes down, but later about 3 hours it is hot again. it’s been 3 days like that. What is the correct dosage for paracetamol for my child? Do I need to add antibiotics too?
Thank you for the question.
Up and down fever in children can be caused by many factors, the most common is infection, for example airway infections, urinary tract infections, digestive infections, dengue fever, measles, ear infections, and so on. In addition to infections, immunization side effects, exposure to excessively hot ambient temperatures, hormonal disorders, immune disorders, and drug side effects can also make children fever.
If a new fever occurs 1-3 days, it is enough for you to give your child the right dose of paracetamol (that is, around 10-15 mg per kilogram of body weight, can be repeated every 4-6 hours), while doing natural treatments for the condition children improve, such as by giving him more milk and water, also give a variety of nutritious foods, let him rest more, give him clothes that warm and absorb sweat, and warm compresses also neck and armpits.
However, if the case is like your child, where the fever does not also improve for 3 days or more, then you should not silence it. Do not also carelessly give antibiotics without direct advice from a doctor. Instead, you need to have your child directly checked by a doctor or pediatrician to have a thorough physical examination, accompanied by supporting examinations, such as blood tests, urine tests, and so on if needed. That way, of course the doctor can provide the best treatment according to the cause of the fever. Antibiotics only need to be given in cases of fever that arise due to bacterial infection. If not, of course the handling will be different. Therefore, do not be careless ..
I hope this helps.
