Foods Recommended After Chemotherapy?

Hello Mustika Dewi,
Actually there are no special restrictions for people who undergo chemotherapy if there is no difficulty eating. The patient can eat the food he and his family usually eat, preferably a healthy balanced nutritional diet. But usually patients undergoing chemotherapy experience problems, usually is a decrease in appetite, nausea and vomiting. Decreased appetite is usually caused due to inflammation of the oral cavity and taste organs (tongue) which then causes the decline in the taste function so that the food becomes tasteless, or canker sores.
After chemotherapy the doctor will give you nausea medication if needed. Even so, some people still experience severe effects and still nausea, vomiting. To work around this, usually the food that is eaten is whatever food he likes. Or if there are no special preferences, serve foods that don't use spices and have a neutral smell, such as chicken porridge or soup. Avoid foods that are spicy, too oily / fatty, and too sweet. If nausea, eat little by little and slowly, avoid eating directly with large portions. Distractions like music / TV when eating might help if you feel like vomiting while eating. If you feel weak or sleepy after eating, wait a few moments before lying down. If forced, prop the body with a pillow high enough.
Also make sure fluid needs are fulfilled. If you have been taking medication given by a doctor, nausea and vomiting does not decrease or other symptoms appear such as severe diarrhea, weakness, no sustained appetite, you should immediately go to the doctor even though it is not yet time for control.
