Frequent Sleepiness Is Narcolepsy?
, I have often felt sleepy for a long time, even unbearable. I read the definition of narcolepsy at HealthReplies.com and it fits perfectly with what I experienced. After waking up in the morning only 1-2 hours apart I was sleepy again that requires heavy sleep. Or if you didn’t sleep this morning, around 9-10 in the morning you were sleepy again and then later in the day you were sleepy again. But the duration of sleep was not short, could be up to 4-5 hours of sleep. When I wake up, the body cannot be moved directly or stiff. This has been several times also, when the dream to wake up still feels like a dream continues or hallucinations. Please the solution, because often sleepy this really disturbs me so I can not move optimally. Thank you ,.
Hello Setya, Thank you for the question.
Narcolepsy is a nervous system disorder that interferes with one's sleep cycle. The exact cause of narcolepsy is not known with certainty but most sufferers have low hypocretin levels. Hypocretin is a substance that functions to control sleep. Low hypocretin levels are thought to be related to autoimmune conditions such as hormonal changes, high stress levels, infections, genetic disorders. Narcolepsy can also be caused by head injuries, brain tumors, inflammation of the brain, or multiple sclerosis. Sufferers will experience symptoms such as excessive drowsiness during the day and difficulty waking up, sleep attacks that can occur anytime and anywhere, muscle weakness, hallucinations, memory problems, headaches.
Besides narcolepsy, excessive sleepiness complaints can also be caused by depression, sleep hygiene / poor sleep habits, side effects of drugs, conversion disorders, and others.
If you feel these symptoms and have disrupted your activities, immediately consult with a neurologist further. The doctor needs to find out more about your complaint, examine you, and conduct other investigations. After knowing the cause of your complaint, the new doctor can provide appropriate treatment.
You can try the following suggestions:
try to sleep and wake up at the same time
do things that can calm the mind before going to bed at night like a warm shower
create a comfortable room atmosphere
take a nap for 10-15 minutes after lunch
Avoid smoking and consuming alcoholic drinks
Hopefully this information is useful.
