Handling Of Bell’s Palsy At A Young Age?
I have been affected by ballspalsy for 3 years, can I still recover? I was hopeless
Hello, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
Bell's palsy is a sudden occurrence of weakness in the facial muscles. The cause of Bell's palsy is not known with certainty, but is thought to be related to certain previous viral infections such as Herpes simplex virus, Herpes zoster, Epstein-Barr virus, Cytomegalovirus, Rubella, Coxsackievirus, etc. In most cases, the symptoms of Bell's palsy will disappear by itself after the virus infection has healed (and most viruses can heal on their own), and it usually takes approximately 2-3 months for Bell's palsy symptoms to disappear.
However, in very rare cases, the symptoms of Bell's palsy may persist. If symptoms persist for more than 3 months, it means that there may be more severe damage to the nerves on your face. Patients whose symptoms persist for more than 3 months will be advised to undergo additional therapies such as facial physiotherapy, administration of botox injections under certain conditions, or surgery (if symptoms persist after other treatments have been tried). It is better to check with a neurologist for further evaluation and management. If a referral is needed (for example to a physiotherapist or surgeon), then your neurologist will provide you with a referral.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
