1 Answer:
Hello Joshua,
Astrocytoma is a primary brain tumor that can be classified as benign or malignant depending on the stage of the astrocytoma experienced by the patient. Astrocytoma stages 3 and 4 are classified as malignant. The cause of the appearance of these tumors is not known with certainty. Sufferers can also experience symptoms that vary depending on the position of this tumor in the brain and the size of the tumor, such as headaches, nausea, vomiting, impaired intelligence, impaired consciousness, seizures, visual disturbances, weakness of limbs, and balance disorders.
After surgery to remove the tumor, the sufferer may still experience dizziness and pain because during the operation there may be areas of the brain that are affected by the surgical procedure. Dizziness can also be experienced in the first few days after surgery for example due to side effects of anesthetic drugs or side effects of pain medications. Usually these symptoms will improve with time.
The healing time of each patient varies greatly depending on the surgical procedure performed, the location of the tumor, the area of the brain affected by the surgery, the age of the patient, and the general health condition of the patient. In addition, the recovery process also depends on the therapy/rehabilitation that the patient undergoes, for example speech therapy, occupational therapy (to carry out daily activities), and physical therapy. This therapy or rehabilitation program plays a role in the patient's recovery after surgery.
Please discuss your concerns with the neurosurgeon who treats the patient because the doctor is the one who knows more about the patient's condition so that the information provided by the doctor will be more complete. Suggest patients to undergo treatment from a doctor regularly and undergo a rehabilitation program if they are healthier.
Hope this information is useful.
