HIV Transmission If Swimming In Public Swimming Pools?
Doctor, what I want to ask is: do people with HIV in their urine / feces have a virus that can transmit it to other people? example of cases of HIV sufferers swimming in public swimming pools and urinating / defecating in public swimming pools, is the virus present in urine / feces that spreads in swimming pools? thanks.
Hello Mila, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
HIV or human immunodeficiency virus is a virus that can spread through contact with certain bodily fluids from HIV sufferers, such as blood, semen, prejaculate fluid, anal fluid, vaginal fluid, and breast milk. Contact must occur through the mucous membrane (the skin lining in the anus and rectum, vagina, penis, and mouth), injected directly into the blood, or through contact with injured skin.
Some of the most common modes of transmission are:
Through anal or vaginal intercourse with HIV sufferers without using a condom (very rare) The following things will not transmit HIV:
Swimming one pool with HIV sufferers Kissing or hugging Using cutlery together Using the toilet together Bitten by mosquitoes or other insects Even though people with HIV in the pool, the HIV virus will not be transmitted. Besides in the urine of HIV sufferers only contains very little of this virus (not enough to cause transmission), swimming pools are also given chlorine which will kill bacteria, viruses, or fungi, including also will kill the HIV virus if found in the pool.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
