How Can Ultrasound Predict Fetal HPL?
How can ultrasound calculate or predict the date of birth of a baby?
The estimated day of birth is generally directed at 40 weeks' gestation. HPL can be calculated using a formula based on the first day of the last menstrual period, and can also be via ultrasound. But what is used is ultrasound in the early stages of pregnancy. The ultrasound done in the last trimester is not intended to calculate HPL anymore.
On ultrasound examination, the doctor will measure the fetal body parts, for example the length of the femur, the distance of the head to toe, the distance between the right and left temple, the diameter of the abdomen, head circumference. From these calculations, ultrasound will convert it to an estimated fetal weight. From the estimated fetal weight data and the first day of the last menstrual period, the estimated day of birth (HPL) can be calculated. However, as the name implies, HPL is only an estimation, yes, labor can occur before or after HPL.
Hope it helps you,
