Hello Kurniawan,

Installation of metal plates and screws is required for fractures that are displaced / displaced which cannot be handled with the use of splint / cast / cast only. Plates and screws that are attached to the bone and are not visible from the skin are done through the ORIF (open reduction internal fixation) procedure. This plate and screw installation aims to maintain the position between fractures so that healing can occur with the alignment / position of the appropriate bone.

After the bone has healed, which generally reaches years, especially in the long bones that are supported, the metal plate can be removed or not. There is no definite provision that must remove the metal plate from the bone. Indications of metal plates being released include:

Severe chronic pain and disturbing activities
Use of metal plates with external fixation
Severe infections that are not treated by antibiotics
Atrophy / shrinkage or decrease in bone density occurs
There is avascular necrosis of the head of the femur in case of a femur fracture
Allergic reaction to plate material
Metal plate material in ancient times can still occur corrosion, causing inflammation in the surrounding tissue. However, this is no longer the case because the plate material used today is generally of titanium metal

Removal of the bone plate is done by surgery. To determine whether the plate needs to be removed or not need to be examined directly by an orthopedic specialist and adjusted for the release of the plate found later. Thus the explanation from me, hopefully useful.
