I am a woman aged 20 years .. here. I want to share a story .. I have a disease that the media world says bipolar disorder .. I have been taking drugs for almost 2 years .. but I have not experienced any significant changes … and it has been 6 months now. Never go to my therapist again .. because I think I am uncomfortable with him .. when I take medicine. The family said that when I was depressed, the time was much longer when 2 years ago … I felt worse than feeling good … was it a factor in the medicine I was taking?
Hello, thank you for the question for HealthReplies.com
Bipolar is a mental disorder in which there is an extreme change in mood and behavior between excessive pleasure (mania) and excessive sadness (depression). Bipolar itself has several types, there are bipolar type 1, bipolar type 2, and cyclothymia.
Therapy for bipolar disorder must be tailored to the condition of each sufferer. Therapy that is suitable for one person is not necessarily suitable for another. Sometimes you need a combination of drugs between mood stabilizers, antidepressants, antiepileptic drugs, or antipsychotics. This combination will be adjusted according to the symptoms of each person. Apart from administering drugs, bipolar sufferers are also advised to undertake other therapies, namely psychotherapy. Treatment for bipolar disorder can take a very long time, up to years, depending on the patient's response to treatment and the regularity of treatment. Therefore, if you do stop treatment because you feel uncomfortable with your current therapist, you should try to find another psychiatrist to get back therapy.
You should also not do drugs yourself. Discontinuation of drugs can cause the return of symptoms of mania or depression, which can be even more severe than before.
