Often times, children cough for trivial reasons, for example because they have been crying, or laugh out loud. Eating too hurriedly or running around can also cause a child to cough. The contraction of the abdominal muscles and diaphragm which is strong enough when coughing often makes the child vomit. This does not always indicate something dangerous.
What you need to watch out for is, if the cough does not improve for more than 3 days, or vomiting occurs quite often (more than 3 times a day), shortness of breath, fever, chest pain, and various other complaints. In these conditions, you should check your child directly with a pediatrician so that further evaluation can be done. It is feared that the cough and vomiting occur due to several conditions that need special treatment, for example:
Allergies, can be due to cold, dust mites, or other substances
ARI (acute respiratory infection)
GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease, backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus)
Congenital heart disease
Other viral or bacterial infections, and so on
Some tests, for example a Mantoux test, X-rays, or blood tests, your doctor may order to identify the cause of your child's complaint. That way, handling can be given so that complaints do not come back again.
In the meantime, try to do the following:
When the child coughs, do these tips:
Calm the child
Give children lots of warm water
Keep children away from exposure to substances that often trigger allergies
Keep the child clean, by bathing and washing hands diligently
When the child vomits, turn on his side to prevent aspiration
Maintain the child's immune system by feeding him a balanced nutritious diet, giving him immunizations as recommended by the doctor, and encouraging children to actively move and exercise
Also keep clean and ventilate the environment where the child lives
Keep children away from cigarettes and smoke
Hope this helps ..
