How To Determine The Gestational Age?
Hello … this is my first pregnancy … what I want to ask you about my life is December 4, 2019, on January 18, 2020 I checked pregnant. The doctor said I was 6 weeks pregnant, how do I count? And on what date was my fertile period? Thank you
Thank you for the question.
Determining gestational age can be done in various ways, for example by calculating HPHT, measuring fundal height, or checking pregnancy / fetal sac sizes via ultrasound. Therefore, it needs to be clarified first, what checks have you been through to determine your gestational age?
If you view the HPHT which falls on December 4, 2019, then on January 18, 2020, if you are pregnant, the gestational age is:
Gestational age = date of inspection - date of LMP
Gestational age = 18 January 2020 - 4 December 2019
Gestational age = 4-5 weeks
If the 6-week gestational age is obtained after you have undergone an ultrasound examination to assess the size of your pregnancy sac, this is far more accurate than determining the gestational age based only on LMP. Presumably, the 1-2 week difference between the results of determining the gestational age via HPHT and ultrasound is often tolerable too often, so there is no need to worry.
The fertile period, in women with normal and regular menstrual cycles, often occurs around 14 days before the next estimated menstrual day. However, it should be understood, that this fertile period is not generally used as a benchmark in determining the gestational age. So, no need to mess around.
The good, if you want to be more clear about determining your gestational age, consult directly with your doctor or obstetrician who checks yes ..
I hope this helps.
