How To Handle It Appropriately In Patients With Liver Cirrhosis?
Good evening, my father was diagnosed with contraction in the liver due to hepatitis virus. And these past few days my father felt extreme pain in his heart and then we rushed to the hospital. What I want to ask is how was the first treatment when my father started to feel pain in that part of the heart? Can I get painkillers? Thank you
Good morning, thanks for the question
Approximately 82% of patients with liver cirrhosis complain of severe pain due to the chronic course of the disease. However, the management of pain in liver cirrhosis requires some consideration because drug metabolism mostly occurs in the liver, so not all types of pain medication can be given because it will aggravate the burden on the liver.
Besides liver cirrhosis is also often followed by impaired kidney function, so that it will cause failure of drug excretion and further increase the risk of drug toxicity. Currently the most tolerable pain medication for patients with hepatic cirrhosis is a type of acetaminophen or known as paracetamol. However, consumption of paracetamol as an anti-pain in liver cirrhosis should not exceed a dose of 2 grams per day because of the risk of further damage to the liver.
In addition to these types of drugs, it must be based on the examination and recommendations of previous doctors. If the pain still does not decrease, then you should do a direct examination by a doctor for adequate treatment.
That's all, hope you can help.
