Hello Sausan Ridwan Badres,
Ear pain or otalgia can be caused by primary disease (ear disorders) or secondary (abnormalities in other places or referred pain). The most common causes of primary otalgia are:
Cerumen obstruction (ear wax)
Secondary otalgia can arise from abnormalities in the tissue contained in the head and neck because it has a sensory nerve pathway that joins. Infection, inflammation, injury / trauma, even tumors / cancer in the following areas can cause pain in the ear:
The inner side of the cheek
The bottom of the mouth
Teeth and gums
Salivary glands in the lower jaw and under the tongue
Ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses
Palatine tonsils / tonsils
Infection, inflammation, and injury are generally acute and transient. While tumors / cancers can be subacute and chronic (long and continuous). To distinguish these disorders, of course, it requires a direct examination with a doctor. Your doctor needs to ask about your history of complaints, treatment history, risk factors (smoking, consumption of unclean foods, family history of the same complaint, family history of cancer, etc.). In addition, doctors need to do a physical examination by looking at the area of your throat and also feel whether there are lumps that are not normal or not in the area around the neck, behind the ears, in the lower jaw. Investigations also need to be done if there is a suspected malignancy / cancer in the form of MRI or biopsy examination to take tissue and examine it in the laboratory.
Please consult further with an ENT specialist to get the examination and treatment accordingly.
