Good evening doctor, I want to ask. Is the size of the head circumference of a baby aged 2.5 months 43cm is normal?
Hello Leo Nita, thank you for the question for HealthReplies.com
The circumference of the head of a baby boy at 10 weeks (2.5 months) should be 38.4 - 40.8 cm, while the head circumference of a baby girl at 10 weeks should be 37.4 - 39.9 cm. A head circumference of 43 cm at 2.5 months is too big whether your baby is a boy or a girl. Some of the possible causes of a head that is larger than normal (macrocephaly) can vary, here are some of them:
genetic (having a family with a head that is large)
bleeding in the brain
certain genetic disorders
certain metabolic disorders
infection in the brain
You should immediately take your baby to the Pediatrician for further evaluation of the macrocephalic condition. Your pediatrician will perform the necessary examinations including physical and neurological examinations, ultrasound, CT scan or MRI.
It is better if this examination is not postponed because some of the conditions that cause macrocephaly above can actually be overcome. Some of the conditions above, if left untreated, can cause permanent damage to the brain that can lead to permanent disability in children. Therefore it is very important for you to immediately take your child to the pediatrician.
So much information from me, hopefully it will be enough to answer
