I Want To Ask :)?
1. why can gonorrhea affect the baby? N n2. why gonorrhea can cause babies to be blind? n
Hello, Thank you for the question.
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhea which attacks the walls of the urethra (urinary tract and sperm), vagina, rectum, eyes and throat. Gonorrhea can be transmitted from person to person through unprotected sexual intercourse and from mother to baby during childbirth if the mother has gonorrhea and has not been treated. Bacteria from the mother's vagina can be transmitted to the eye walls of the baby so the baby can suffer from conjunctivitis gonorrhea. Symptoms experienced by babies include red eyes, eye discharge, and swollen eyelids. Symptoms usually appear 2-4 days after birth. If this condition is not treated properly, the infection can spread and cause infection to the brain and lining of the brain. In addition, the infection can also cause scar tissue to form in the eye which can cause blindness in babies.
Advise the baby's parents to consult a pediatrician who treats the baby. The mother of the baby should also receive treatment in the form of antibiotics.
Hope this information is helpful.
