do you need immunizations during pregnancy? I happen to be 6 months pregnant. Seeing the experiences of my friends and relatives, some were immunized and some were not. So I’m confused..

1 Answer:

Hi Shabrina, thanks for asking at HealthReplies.com. First of all, we congratulate you on your pregnancy. Regarding whether or not immunization is safe during pregnancy, this will depend on the type of vaccine. It is not recommended to immunize using live vaccines, such as MMR and chickenpox vaccines, but vaccines such as influenza, tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis vaccines are recommended during pregnancy.

So again, it is important for you to be immunized and whether you have never had an immunization, it is important to consider whether or not to have an immunization. If you are still confused, you can discuss this with your gynecologist. But in general, mothers who are not vaccinated during pregnancy will still give birth to healthy babies as long as they are regularly monitored by an obstetrician. May your pregnancy and child birth go smoothly.

So, hopefully useful.
