Irregular Heartbeat After Drinking Coffee Accompanied By Excessive Anxiety?

I’m a 38 year old male. early 2000 in the morning I had a panic attack because my heart was beating irregularly after drinking coffee. I’m a smoker. and at that time I was in a state of anxiety. I was diagnosed with sotimation or excessive anxiety. After a few weeks of treatment I feel better. then my days are normal. In 2011 I decided to quit smoking and drinking coffee. After a few weeks of quitting smoking I had another panic attack and an irregular heartbeat. After the ECG he said it was normal. I went back to treatment for the anxiety I was suffering from. I also often jog. In the last few months, when I jog for about 15 or 20 minutes, my heart beats like it’s been hit 2 to 3 times. I also stopped jogging. then my heart rate is normal. what I want to ask is whether this condition is dangerous? and is there a relationship with anxiety and smoking cessation? thank you
1 Answer:
Hi Mohammad Ridwan. In general, when you exercise, panic, anxiety, fever, dehydration, the heart will work faster than usual and not infrequently if you don't really measure your heart rate, it will feel like it's irregular. Of course, if you just feel an irregular pounding without actually feeling it by placing your hand on your chest where your heart is, you will feel your heart is irregular because it depends on the nerves hitting your walls to the brain to feel it. In addition, the condition you are experiencing can be caused by:
1. arrhythmia
2. atherosclerosis
3. Psychological conditions such as psychosomatic, anxious, panic
Consult your doctor about your condition for further information and treatment. A physical exam can help. Other examinations such as ECG, echocardiography, X-rays, angiography can help. What you can do is
1. Manage your stress and anxiety
2. Continue your smoking cessation
3. Eat a balanced diet
4. exercise regularly
Hopefully helpful, and thank you. Regards, Dr Alyssa
