Is Dangerous Asymmetrical Shoulder At 16 Years Old?
hello doctor, I’m 16 years old. I feel one shoulder is a little higher than the other one, even though there is very little difference, because if not noticed it will not look the difference. Is that dangerous?
Hello Fatimah Alhakim,
The difference in shoulder height may be due to the irregular shape of the spine or the unequal length of the lower leg bones, so that the posture is tall. Scoliosis is a form of spinal disorder that often causes shoulder symptoms that are not the same height. In scoliosis the spine forms the letter S (tilted to the right or left or can rotate). Scoliosis is often found in women compared to men. Scoliosis generally does not provide significant complaints, but in severe cases with a large degree of bone slope, sufferers will often experience back pain, difficulty breathing, limited mobility.
The diagnosis of scoliosis can be done by physical examination by a doctor and also supporting examinations in the form of x-rays. Management of scoliosis is usually by observation (followed by its development, patients are asked to control every few years to see the increase in the degree of spinal tilt), the use of special corsets, physiotherapy, and surgery for certain cases.
To maintain posture and not worsen scoliosis, try not to carry heavy objects on one side of the shoulder. Sit on a flat pedestal. Exercise regularly and stretch to strengthen the muscles around the bones later.
