Is Elephant Foot Medicine Mandatory?
I got elephantiasis medicine from a village apparatus in the form of a package (generic albendazole tablets and generic diethylcarbamazine citrate 3 tablets). Does it have to be taken every year? As stated by those who shared. Or just prevention. Please explain and what should I do? thank you
Hello. Good night. Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com
Regarding the drug given is one form of prevention against the occurrence of elephantiasis which is usually given to areas that are endemic (often a certain disease occurs). This is intended so that people in the endemic environment have self-defense against the occurrence of the disease. This has become a government program in which the population of endemic areas aged 2 to 70 years will be given a preventative drug that is 1 dose for 5 years in a row. Until 2018, which were not endemic areas, were Jakarta, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, Southeast Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara, so that they were taken using preventive medicine.
Preventive medicine is a combination of Diethylcarbamazine (DEC) 100 mg and Albendazole 400 mg tablets. Ages 2-5 years are 1 DEC tablet and 1 Albendazole tablet; aged 6-14 years received 2 DEC tablets and 1 Albendazole tablet; and those over the age of 14 get 3 DEC tablets and 1 Albendazole tablet.
Prevention is very important because treatment will be more difficult if swelling in the lymph node tissue has occurred. Another thing that can be done to prevent is
- Avoid mosquito bites by cleaning mosquito nests, sleeping with mosquito nets, applying mosquito repellent
- Using effective preventive medicines to protect yourself also prevents the spread to others
That's the thing we can say. May be useful. Thank you
