Is Fibrosarcoma A Skin Cancer?
Is fibrosarcoma including skin cancer
Hello Tytyn. Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com. I am dr. Princess Claudya will help answer your questions.
Fibrosarcoma is a malignancy (cancer) originating from fibroblasts. Fibroblasts themselves are made up of bones and soft tissues of the body such as the deep skin (dermis), tendons (the ends of the muscles), ligaments, muscles, fat, nerves, blood vessels, lymph vessels. For that reason, fibrosarcoma can occur in the parts mentioned above, including the skin.
The mechanism for the formation of fibrosarcomas is a genetic mutation in these fibroblast cells that results in uncontrolled growth resulting in what is called cancer / malignancy. The exact cause of this genetic mutation itself is not known, but some sources say that this mutation can be triggered by radiation (such as exposure to x-rays, or UV rays), exposure to certain substances (thorium dioxide, vinyl chloride, arsenic)
Symptoms of this disease initially are pain in the area involved. Over time a lump will appear in the area that enlarges rapidly. Can also be accompanied by other cancer symptoms such as weight loss.
If there are these symptoms, you should immediately consult a surgeon. In cases of malignancy, earlier diagnosis will be very useful to increase the patient's life expectancy. The doctor will ask about the course of the disease, then will perform a physical examination of the area concerned. The doctor is also likely to carry out supporting examinations in the form of a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis of the cancer and determine the stage. You can also do tests such as MRI, PET scan, bone scan, to see the size and spread of the tumor. When it is certain, the doctor will provide therapy according to the conditions. Therapy in fibrosarcoma can include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy.
There is no definite prevention for this case, considering the exact cause is unknown. However, it is better to reduce the exposure to the risk factors that have been mentioned above which are expected to reduce the possibility of this disease.
That is the explanation from me. Hopefully helpful and useful.
