Is It Necessary To Consume High Calcium Milk When Calcifying The Joints?
I want to ask, my mother’s calcification in the joints, is it for consumption of high calcium milk, or other calcium-containing products ??
Good afternoon, thanks for the question
Calcification or joint disease called osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic and progressive joint inflammation. In this condition the joint surface loses the protective layer of the cartilage so that it triggers inflammation when there is bone friction while moving. There are several risk factors for OA, namely obesity, muscle weakness, excessive or insufficient physical activity, history of trauma, heredity. and mechanical factors. Symptoms can range from joint pain, joint movement restrictions, to joint stiffness.
In general, OA treatment consists of 3 stages, including:
1. The first stage is a weight-loss program and reduces excess activity in the joints so as not to aggravate the joints that are already inflamed.
2. The second stage includes the first stage accompanied by anti-inflammatory treatment. Anti-inflammatory drugs begin with a low dose that can be raised if the low dose response is less effective. Alternative therapy can be by injection into the joint such as administration of hyaluronan or short-term corticosteroids (one to three weeks) to knee OA.
3. Third stage
In severe OA, the symptoms of pain persist or get worse after getting the standard treatment according to the recommendations (failed therapy), then consider knee replacement surgery.
Supplementation with calcium or milk in this condition cannot resolve the cause of osteoarthritis. At present it is highly recommended supplementation containing glucosamine and chondroitin to prevent worsening conditions and reduce joint pain complaints. The supplement is able to stimulate the production of new cartilage components, and is believed to also be able to help the damaged cartilage network. Carry out further consultations with your doctor for evaluation of future treatment plans.
That's all, hope you can help.
