Is It Okay To Drink Ice After The Diphtheria Injection?
Good evening doctor, I’m 14 years old, I want to ask if it’s okay to drink ice after the diphtheria injection?
There is no prohibition for you to drink cold drinks after diphtheria immunization. In general, there are no taboos after this immunization. It is actually highly recommended to drink lots of water, because sometimes after diphtheria immunization there are side effects in the form of mild fever.
Diphtheria immunization itself is currently being heavily promoted by the local health office due to the large number of extraordinary events (KLB) of diphtheria in several regions in Indonesia. There are several programs carried out, including the diphtheria outbreak response immunization (ORI) program. ORI diphtheria is carried out in the form of giving diphtheria vaccine to every child in the outbreak area aged <15 years regardless of whether the child's immunization history is complete or not. The ORI program is carried out by the puskesmas to its working area.
If you do not live in an outbreak area, the consideration of giving the diphtheria vaccine is based on risk, immunization history, and the doctor's clinical opinion. If diphtheria immunization when childhood is complete, the doctor usually does not recommend immunization again. After that, diphtheria immunization is carried out again at pre-school age (4-5 years) and is recommended to be repeated as an adult as a booster 1x/every 10 years (generally applicable).
