Is It Safe To Consume Milk Together With Basil?
Hello doctor. I want to ask is it safe to consume basil with milk? Cow’s milk or soy milk. Because as far as I know, milk can inhibit or prevent the body to absorb minerals / iron from other foods if taken together. I was hesitant to consume basil with milk, because I avoid syrups with high levels of sugar. thanks.

Basically milk contains high amounts of calcium so that it can interfere with the absorption of other minerals such as iron and magnesium which are quite high in basil seeds. However, there are no specific dangers that can arise from the consumption of milk and basil seeds together. What might happen is that the absorption of nutrients cannot be maximized.
Basically, the absorption characteristics of each mineral can be different. When you want to get maximum calcium absorption, make sure you get enough vitamin D intake (either from fortified foods / drinks, supplements, or the sun), do not consume food or drinks which contain high calcium together (for example, drink 2 cups of milk, should be separated in time), and consumption of foods high in vitamin C as well. If you want to get maximum iron absorption, make sure you leave a distance with foods that contain high calcium for at least 2 hours, and consumption of foods that are high in vitamin C as well. For example, if you want to consume basil seeds, you can consume them together with fresh orange juice (not syrup).
