Is Ivermectin A Local Drug?

Tonight Doc, I kiky, is ivermectin a local medicine? not import. Do doctors generally prescribe this? thank you doctor
1 Answer:
Hello Rizky,
Thank you for the question.
Ivermectin belongs to the class of antihelmintic drugs, which are useful in eradicating several types of infectious worms, such as Strongyloides, Onchocerca volvulus, Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, and Brugia timori. This drug works by preventing the reproduction of adult worms, while also killing worms that are still in the larval stage.
There are several drug manufacturers that produce ivermectin, some of which are centrally located in the country, but some are domestically. Even general practitioners can prescribe these drugs if there are medical indications that require them.
However, it should be understood, that diagnosing intestinal worms, including specific to the type of worm, sometimes it is not enough to do just by interviewing and physical examination related to clinical symptoms that arise. Not infrequently, further tests are also needed, including blood tests, stool tests, ultrasound, endoscopy, and so on. Therefore, not just any case with symptoms like intestinal worms can be treated with this drug huh ..
I hope this helps.
