Is the treatment of TB gland the same as TB lung? because in some sources I read that the gland tb taking the medicine every day for 9 months, while my doctor advised me to take medicine for 6 months (2 months every day + 4 months 2 days once). please enlighten me, what are the rules for drinking OAT for tuberculosis according to the doctor?
Hello Trip, Thank you for the question.
Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis that can occur in the lungs (pulmonary TB) or outside the lungs (extra-pulmonary TB). Glandular TB is one form of extra-pulmonary TB, where infection occurs in the lymph nodes that cause a lump in the neck. This lump will increase in size and feel no pain. In addition, sufferers will experience other symptoms such as fever, night sweats, weight loss for no apparent reason.
Patients who have been proven to have glandular TB will be treated with antituberculosis drugs (OAT) in the form of a combination of several antibiotics namely isoniazid, rifampicin, pirazinamide, ethambutol, and streptomycin. OAT used is the same as OAT for pulmonary TB. Treatment for glandular TB ranges from 6-9 months, depending on the patient's condition and patient's response to treatment. Obey the rules for taking further medication, depending on the drug you are taking, whether each drug is a single or in the form of a fixed dose combination (FDC, several antibiotics in one tablet) and a history of experiencing TB / undergoing prior TB treatment. Therefore, you are advised to check yourself in accordance with the control schedule recommended by the doctor because on the control schedule the doctor will do some re-examination to assess your body's response to treatment. If you have further questions, make sure you always consult your lung specialist so that you get the right information because the doctor has already examined you and is more aware of your condition. If you are in doubt, you can ask for a second opinion from another doctor. Please take OAT according to doctor's advice without interruption.
I hope this helps.
