Itching In Renal Impairment Patients?
I was able to read an article that said that people affected by kidney disorders, one of the signs is itchy skin, well, itching all over the body and occurs continuously or at certain times huh? please explain. Thank you doctor🙏
Hello, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
Itching is not always experienced by people with kidney disorders. Itching can occur in people who experience chronic kidney failure where kidney function has greatly decreased resulting in a buildup of toxins (urea) in the body. This itch is called pruritus uremia. This condition occurs in patients with chronic kidney failure who already need dialysis.
The following are some of the symptoms of pruritus uremia:
itching that occurs every day, usually heavy at night
itching can occur all over the body or in certain places, most often occurs in the back, stomach, head, arms
In patients undergoing dialysis (dialysis), the itching will usually subside after dialysis until the day after and will heal again 2 days after dialysis
the skin can look dry or not
Basically itching all over the body must not always be caused by kidney disorders. Other causes include dry skin, eczema, allergies, other skin diseases, diabetes, or certain mental disorders can also cause symptoms of itchy skin throughout the body. You should check yourself to a dermatologist first if you do not know clearly the cause of itching.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
