Hello Allysa,
Thank you for the question.
Eye that feels itchy, reddish, lumps, accompanied by the appearance of a membrane-like mass in your eye, possibly caused by pterygium. This condition originates from conjunctiva that grows excessively due to exposure to irritants, such as sunlight, dry air, wind, and so on. If it is small, pterygium often does not cause annoying complaints. However, when enlarged, inflammation often appears repeatedly (resulting in itching, redness, lumps, sore, runny, even swollen) and vision problems.
In addition to pterygium, complaints in your eyes may also occur due to pseudopterygium, pinguecula, conjunctivitis, trichiasis, entropion, ectropion, benign or malignant tumors in the eye, foreign body entry, keratitis, migraine, and so on.
If you look at the current conditions, where the outbreak of COVID-19, it seems that your complaint can be said to be mild and can be dealt with first by:
Drop artificial tears into the eye
Cold compress your eyes
Always wash your hands with soap and running water after every eye contact
Not just using any contact lenses or cosmetics around the eyes
Improve the cleanliness of the area around your eyes
Do not try to force off the membranes in the eye with any tools and methods
Limit physical activity outdoors (especially in the hot sun, dry and windy air)
Limit activities that make your eyes tired, like staring at a gadget or reading small print
However, if the complaint actually feels increasingly to be after undergoing the steps above, our advice is that you still go to a doctor or ophthalmologist so that further treatment is given according to the cause.
I hope this helps.
