Itchy, Moldy Skin And Prolonged Pus Discharge?
Hello doctor, it’s been 3 months my sister has had a festering wound in the leg that hasn’t healed. The wound appeared on its own, starting from several points around the big toe whose skin was dry. Not long ago, from the dry skin appeared textured white spots suspected of being a fungus. Starting in November 2019 yesterday, the dry and moldy skin formed a wound that also fester. Every festering, bumps appear on the thighs that make her legs hurt. The wound was dry, but not long after the wound reappeared and festered again.
Thank you for the question.
The presence of festering wounds can indicate a bacterial infection of the skin or often referred to as pyoderma. Pyoderma itself has many types, depending on the location, shape, and appearance of the skin disorder experienced. The following are the types of pyoderma that can occur in the legs:
Ektima, which is a form of deep wounds accompanied by sores around it and also pus. Furuncle, which is an infection of the hair follicles that form like boils. Carbunkel, which is a group of boils that form into one. MRSA infections of the skin, namely MRSA bacterial infections that attack the skin and form like boils. This skin condition can also cause leucorrhoea abnormalities around the skin, and also makes lymph nodes enlarge like in the thighs, which is caused by the activation of the immune system in fighting bacterial infections. Therefore, you should go to a dermatologist so that the doctor will evaluate your complaints, do a physical examination, and support examinations if necessary, such as skin scrub testing to see bacterial infections, and then the doctor will provide treatment in the form of antibiotics according to the cause from your complaint.
In the meantime, here's what you can do:
Maintain cleanliness of the body, wash hands regularly and correctly with running water and soap or with alcohol. Clean the wound properly. Do not use other people's personal equipment such as towels and shavers, and also should. Hopefully the information above will help and hopefully get well soon.
