Jaundice In Infants Aged 9 Days?
Hello, is jaundice can attack the baby suddenly? Because my child was just 9hrs and when he was in control he said he got yellow … but every day there was a shaman who took care of my child every day but never said he was yellow. Please explain 🙏
Hello Seno, Thank you for the question.
Jaundice is a disease caused by a buildup of bilirubin (yellow substance) in the body that causes the skin and the whites of the eyes (skelra) to turn yellow. Jaundice can occur normally in newborns, usually appearing when babies are 2-4 days old and disappear within 1-2 weeks. However, there are also those who experience jaundice in the first 24 hours after birth or do not disappear after 14 days, then this condition may be caused by certain medical conditions. Bilirubin is a yellow substance produced from the breakdown of red blood cells. This substance will be carried and metabolized in the liver and then excreted in urine and feces. Excessive breakdown of blood cells, abnormal bilirubin metabolism, or interference during the process during and after passing through the liver can cause a buildup of bilirubin.
In addition to normal conditions, jaundice in infants can also be caused by:
viral or bacterial infections
bleeding in the body
lack of enzymes that help process bilirubin
abnormalities in red blood cells
Traditional birth attendants do not have medical competence to know whether your baby has jaundice or not. Thus, this condition may have occurred before but was not detected because your baby was not examined by a doctor.
Too high levels of bilirubin can cause health complications such as damage to brain cells (encephalopathy). Therefore, please follow the advice of a pediatrician who is examining your child. The doctor will give advice according to the results of the examination. Don't hesitate to ask your doctor if you still have further questions. At the next hair, please discuss your child's health problems with the doctor, yes.
Hopefully this information helps you.
