Jaw Pain When Opening The Mouth To Headaches And Ears?
My jaw hurts and makes a sound when it is opened wide, especially my right jaw. The bulge on my left cheek was noticeably more prominent than my right cheek and when my right teeth could meet the upper and lower ones, the left teeth had not met. My right ear often hurts and I often complain of headaches. I had consulted with Sp.BM but he said there was no problem with my jaw joint after asking and seeing a panoramic photo of my teeth but I was not sure what he said. What diseases do I suffer from? How to handle it? If I want to consult a doctor, what specialist should I go to? Thank you
Your complaint can indeed be caused due to interference with the temporo mandibular joint / TMJ disorder. TMJ disorders can be caused due to a history of previous trauma, the habit of grinding teeth, supporting the chin, arthritis, shifting of the jaw joints, and disorders of the gums or teeth.
TMJ disorders can cause several complaints such as pain around the jaw and ears, headaches, difficulty chewing and yawning, sound when moving the jaw, swelling on the sides of the face, and facial soreness.
Apart from interference with the TMJ, complaints of earaches and headaches when the jaw is moved can also be caused by obstruction of the eustachian fallopian tubes. Your action to go to a dentist who specializes in oral surgery is very appropriate. If the complaint in the jaw causes pain in the ear, you can consult an ENT doctor so that further tests can be done to determine the cause. Examinations that are done are by history, physical examination, and supporting examinations with X-rays, CT scans, or MRI if necessary. Then the doctor can provide further treatment that is tailored to your condition and the results of your examination.
In the meantime, you can do the following tips:
Avoid the habit of supporting your chin and grinding your teeth
Rest your jaw
Eat foods that are easy to chew, not hard, not sticky
Warm or cold compresses on the painful area
Avoid opening the jaw too wide
