Late Menstruation After Taking Clindamycin To Treat Vaginal Yeast Infections?
I have a vaginal yeast infection. I was given the drug clindamycin hydrochloride. While I was taking the medicine, I was late for my period. Can those drugs interfere with the cycle? And can I get pregnant with this infection?
Hello Rahma, Thank you for the question.
Clindamycin is an antibiotic drug that aims to overcome bacterial infections. Consumption of this drug does not cause disruption in your menstrual cycle. Late menstruation can be caused by pregnancy or some other conditions related to disruption of hormonal balance in the body such as:
excessive physical activity
high stress level
weight changes dramatically
side effects of hormonal contraception
thyroid hormone disorders
polycystic ovary syndrome
Even though a woman has an infection, of course pregnancy can still occur. However, long-term infection that is not treated immediately can cause the infection to spread to other reproductive organs such as the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. One of the complications of the infection that spreads to other areas is damage to the fallopian tubes that can cause a woman to become pregnant. Therefore, if you experience symptoms of vaginal discharge that are not normal you should immediately consult a doctor to receive appropriate treatment.
You can do tetspack if you have experienced menstruation late for at least 1 week. The testpack aims to detect the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone from urine, which is formed when a woman is pregnant / If the testpack results are negative and you still haven't menstruated for the next 1 week, you can repeat the testpack or immediately consult with a specialist obstetrician for further examination and next handling. In the meantime, you can also do the following suggestions:
avoid intercourse until you recover
avoid using tight pants
Use underwear that can absorb sweat easily
drug consumption in accordance with doctor's recommendation
always keep the genital area clean and dry
avoid using feminine cleansing soap regularly
get enough rest, avoid tiring physical activity
avoid strict diets
manage stress well
maintain ideal body weight
Hopefully this information helps you.
