nI have a question. My wife is currently pregnant.. since the 7th month of pregnancy I have felt a lump in my wife’s breast.. and her armpit hurts when pressed.. what are the possible symptoms?rnPlease clarify
Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.
During pregnancy, the parenchyma cells in the breast will experience hypertrophy (an increase in cell size) and hyperplasia (an increase in the number of cells). This is done in preparation for supplies later when breastfeeding. At this time of pregnancy, the parenchyma cells in the breast have started to produce milk. However, the expenditure is still restrained because of the pregnancy hormones that inhibit the production of hormones that regulate the ejection of breast milk.
Due to the growth of the breast parenchyma, lumps often appear. In the medical world, this condition is often referred to as breast fibrocystic changes. These lumps are generally normal and harmless but can be painful if they enlarge and are pressed too much. So why the pain can radiate to the breast, possibly this condition is caused by inflammation of the lymph nodes that drain lymphatic flow from the breast.
The characteristic of benign breast lumps is that they are smooth, supple when pressed, do not enlarge, and do not cause changes in the structure of the skin.
However, apart from the fibrocystic changes, your wife's lump may also be the result of:
Breast skin infections (eg folliculitis, acne, genital herpes)
Skin tumors (eg lipomas, sarcomas), etc.
There's nothing wrong with having your wife checked directly with an obstetrician to be sure whether the lump is potentially dangerous or not. If necessary, the doctor may recommend that your wife undergo a breast ultrasound examination to assess the possible cause of the lump and also the appropriate treatment.
In the meantime, you should avoid pressing or massaging the lump excessively. Your wife can follow these tips first to reduce her complaints:
If you feel pain, first use a warm compress to relieve it
Take care of personal hygiene, diligently bathe and wear clean clothes
Choose a bra that fits your bust size (not too tight)
Expand to eat foods rich in antioxidants, such as vegetables, fruit, fish oil
I hope this helps.
