Hello warahmatullahi wabarakatuh Good morning, I want to ask. Nearly a month ago my head hurt, every day the pain must appear. And there was a lump in my neck, I had already tried treatment, the doctor said the lump in my neck was probably a benign tumor. Is that dangerous? If it’s benign why does it sometimes cause pain, and even my head hurts and doesn’t heal? what kind of illness is that? Thanks.

Hi ilfa,

Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.

A lump in the neck that feels painful to spread to the head, can be caused by a benign condition, can also be malignant. Some possible causes of a lump in your neck are:

Skin infections, such as folliculitis, acne, abscesses
Benign tumors, such as epidermoid cysts, sebaceous cysts, lipomas
Malignant tumors, such as sarcomas, melanomas
Lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes), for example due to an infection or tumor
Others, for example skin tags, hyperkeratosis, keloids, and so on

Pain in your head, aside from being affected by a lump in your neck, may also occur due to tension headaches, cerebral aneurysms, brain tumors, hypertension, viral or bacterial infections, head injuries, and many other possible causes.

Often, lumps in the neck that are malignant are not solely determined from the pain or not the lump. Malignant lumps are usually characterized by hard consistency, irregular surface, adhering strongly to the surrounding tissue (difficult to move), increasing in size, and causing other physical complaints, such as weakness, fatigue, mild fever and prolonged sweating, and body weight which dropped dramatically.

If the complaint feels very disturbing to you, you should check back to your doctor right .. Further evaluation, such as with laboratories, X-rays, ultrasound, biopsy, and so on may be done by a doctor so that the cause of your complaint can be identified properly. Furthermore, you can also be referred to the right specialist doctor, such as a neurologist or surgeon.

For now, what you should do is:

Compress lumps with warm water when you feel pain
Improve personal hygiene, especially in the area of your neck and head
Do not carelessly sort or provide treatment for lumps that appear
much rest
Eat foods rich in antioxidants, for example vegetables, fruits, and whole grains
Take paracetamol to help reduce your headache

Hope this helps ...
