Management Of An Empty Pregnancy But The Fetal Sac Still Exists?
I nuryanti afternoon, I was 9 weeks pregnant, my mlm bleeding and lumps out a day, my ultrasound fetus is not empty but there is still a uterine sac, so how can I still need a curette or unnecessary?
Good evening, thanks for the question
An empty pregnancy or what is called a blighted ovum (BO) is an fertilized and implanted egg but does not develop. The pregnancy sac is there but the fetus in it does not develop. BO is the most common cause of abortion. The cause of BO is mainly due to genetic abnormalities in egg cells or sperm cells so that the formation of the fetus does not form since early pregnancy.
Treatment options that can be performed in BO cases include:
1. Expectant management
Wait until the pregnancy sac tissue is removed from the uterus by itself if there are complaints of blood spots or wait for up to 9 weeks later to re-assess any fetal development.
2. Drug therapy
Using certain types of drugs that function as triggers for uterine contractions and the mouth of the uterus. However, this method takes several weeks for the body to spontaneously release the remaining tissue in the uterus. This action is more at risk of causing bleeding and other side effects.
3. Evacuate the remaining conceptions
Performed by widening the cervix and then evacuating the rest of the conception by means of a sharp curette or suction curette.
The choice of therapy is based on an assessment of the patient's medical condition. For that, do consult with your doctor for treatment options that are in accordance with the current conditions.
That's all, hope you can help
