The normal menstrual cycle is 21-35 days with a menstrual length of 2-7 days and the amount of blood loss is 30-40 ml. The condition you experience is irregular menstruation. There are several factors that can affect irregular menstrual conditions, including:
Stress and anxiety
Hormonal effects of breastfeeding
There is a drastic weight loss
Side effects of contraceptives such as birth control pills, birth control injections, implant birth control
Other medical conditions: hormonal instability, polycystic ovary syndrome, ovarian cysts, thyroid disease, chronic disease
As for menstrual blood, fresh red and light brown, it may still be within normal limits. Light brown menstrual blood can be caused by less blood coming out and more mucus. Meanwhile, fresh red blood is because more blood comes out and this is normal.
For now, try the following tips for smooth menstruation:
Get enough rest and sleep 7-8 hours / day
Maintain ideal body weight
Try not to get tired
Regular exercise 3-4x / week but avoid too heavy exercise
Manage stress and anxiety well
Change contraception if necessary
If you experience irregular menstrual conditions for more than 3 cycles or more than 3 months, you should check with your obstetrician so that an examination can be done to confirm the cause so that you can be given more maximum follow-up treatment. Additional examinations that may be done are ultrasound and blood tests, while the treatment given can include improving a healthy lifestyle, drugs to treat the underlying medical condition, and hormonal therapy according to your condition.
