Mode Of Transmission Of HIV?
Good afternoon, I want to ask for what HIV transmission is like huh? The same sex and opposite sex. Can having sex for 3 times with the same sex or the opposite sex can be infected if our partners are HIV positive? To do VCT whether 3 months after intercourse or immediately after intercourse?
Thank you for asking Aldookter.
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a disorder of the immune system that is triggered by HIV virus infection. This virus can enter the body through contact with other patients' body fluids, especially blood, penile fluid, vaginal fluid, anal fluid, or breast milk. Therefore, HIV can be transmitted through the following methods:
Sexual contact, including vaginal sex, anal sex, or oral sex with HIV sufferers (both with the opposite sex or with the same sex) --- Although sexual intercourse is only done once, if your partner has HIV, then you are very at risk of contracting HIV. The more often you have sex with a partner who has HIV, the greater the potential for transmission.
Use of syringes that are contaminated with the HIV virus, including when using injecting drugs, using tattoos or acts, or medical personnel who are pricked by needles used by HIV sufferers
Breastfeeding, i.e. if you are breastfed by a mother suffering from HIV
Childbirth, especially normal (vaginal) delivery
Blood transfusion that has been contaminated with the HIV virus (currently, this is almost impossible)
The HIV virus is very small in saliva and sweat, so it cannot be transmitted through physical contact, also eating or drinking with HIV sufferers.
For people who have a history of HIV risk behavior, including if they have had sexual relations with an HIV sufferer, it is strongly recommended that they undergo VCT (voluntary counseling and testing) of HIV, so that if they are infected, treatment can be done early. The VCT includes education, blood tests, as well as counseling regarding the steps that must be done related to the results of the examination. VCT should ideally be carried out within 3 weeks to 3 months after risky behavior is carried out. Examination too early risks causing false-negative results (false negatives). If the first negative VCT results are found, VCT can be repeated 3 to 6 months later.
That's all our explanation. For more details, please consult directly with your doctor or internist.
I hope this helps.
