Hello dear friends, thank you for asking at HealthReplies.com
Cantengan is a layman's term for an inflammatory condition at the corner of the fingertip due to a protruding nail growth that creates a wound on the skin. Generally, the sufferer will complain of swollen, red, and painful fingertips. If the inflammation is not treated promptly, the wound on the skin will be the initial site for the entry of microorganisms which in turn can lead to a buildup of pus (abscess).
Here are some causes of hardening that should be avoided / stopped:
fan-like nail shape
cut the nail too short so that it penetrates the edge of the nail
direct impact or trauma to the leg
the result of shoes that are too tight and narrow
poorly maintained foot hygiene
Here are some initial steps for hardening:
keep skin clean, including feet, by washing it with soap and warm water
keep the side of the skin with the nail stuck, for example by confining it with a cotton bud
cut the nail that sticks straight
choose shoes and socks with the right size, not too narrow
avoid direct impact on the feet
if the pain is very disturbing, you can take a pain reliever such as paracetamol
If the cantengan does not get better in 1 week, it would be better if you check with the nearest doctor for further examination and treatment. The doctor will determine the severity of the hook. If deemed necessary, the doctor can extract the finger nails.
