Nausea After Blood Donation?
Good afternoon, I want to ask, so I had a blood donor before in 2014, then I only did another donor in April 2019, when I first made a blood donation, I did not have any complaints, but when I did the second donor, I did not. enough rest (lack of sleep) so after the donor I immediately nauseated and vomited and my body went limp, right after the donor got heavy food and snacks, so I became sick when I opened the heavy food, finally I didn’t eat and only drank a little because the taste of the drink (milk with oat mixture) actually makes me nauseous. Can I do another blood drive later? Thank you 🙂
Hello. Thank you for the question submitted to HealthReplies.com. We can understand the concern you feel.
Complaints of weakness, nausea, and vomiting after blood donation are side effects that occur in some people after blood donor. There are several things that increase the risk of these side effects, including:
Not eating before donating blood can be related to the possibility of having hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels)
Lack of rest, ie sleeping less than 8 hours, especially the day before donating blood
Stress / anxiety due to fear of seeing blood or medical devices
Lack of fluids (dehydration)
Heart rhythm disorders
Do not rule out the possibility that you can experience a similar complaint if you donate blood in the future. To prevent this, you are advised to avoid the 5 most common causes of complaints from weakness, nausea, and vomiting after donating blood. Do not hesitate to do a health condition check with your doctor so you can be assessed for eligibility to donate blood.
