Hi Elga,

Thanks for the question. Nausea and vomiting are indeed one of the signs of pregnancy but an uncertain sign of pregnancy. In other words, if you experience these symptoms it is not necessarily due to pregnancy because nausea and vomiting can also be caused by other health conditions. In addition to nausea and vomiting, other uncertain signs of pregnancy are late menstruation, frequent urination, fatigue, constipation, more sensitive smell, and sudden emotional changes. A more definite sign of pregnancy is with a testpack and ultrasound examination.

Nausea can be caused by several conditions including gastritis, stomach ulcers, acid reflux disease, vertigo, experiencing infections in the body, side effects of spicy food, side effects of caffeinated and alcoholic beverages, stress, and others.

Please wait for your period first. If you experience a missed period, you can do a testpack. The testpack can be repeated one week later to convince you then you can consult an obstetrician and gynecologist for further examination including ultrasound.

If the nausea and vomiting worsens, visit the nearest doctor immediately so that the doctor can ask more about your complaint and examine you. The doctor will provide appropriate treatment according to the underlying condition.

For a while, avoid eating large portions of food, you should eat small portions but more often. Avoid spicy food and caffeinated/alcoholic drinks. Try to keep eating a balanced nutritious diet. Avoid lying down after eating.

Hope this information is useful.
