About 7 to 8 years ago I underwent thyroid surgery, and until now I feel from year to year the fat on the neck of my chin starts to collect. The longer it gets bigger until now it has formed a double chin. Why did it happen and how to overcome it? Is there a relationship between postoperative effects with fat accumulation in the neck? That is all and thank you.

1 Answer:

Good evening, thanks for asking at HealthReplies.com. Seven to eight years is not a short amount of time, and a lot can happen in that period to cause fat buildup on the chin.

If it relates to thyroid surgery itself, it is likely due to a decrease in metabolism. Thyroid hormone functions to regulate the body's metabolism or performance. The higher the thyroid hormone, or for example in conditions of hyperthyroidism, the higher the metabolism. The impact is that the person will easily feel hot, easily hungry, experience weight loss, easy sweating, difficulty sleeping, so can not be silent and easily worried. After thyroid surgery, a person tends to experience a condition of hypothyroidism, or low thyroid hormone levels, and the impact a person experiences is the opposite of what he experiences if the level of thyroid hormone is high, which includes weight gain. It is this weight gain that may play a role in the formation of fat in the chin.

But of course back again, the time you experience is not short. It could have nothing to do with your history of surgery, or it could be partly, and the rest is due to your lifestyle, which is less exercise, less active, consuming too much fatty food, side effects of drugs, and the process of aging itself which can indeed make a person's metabolism decline.

However, if you feel disturbed by the accumulation of fat, the most important thing is to eliminate it. And this you can do by reducing the consumption of oily and fatty foods, eating more vegetables and fruit, routinely exercising, and if you find it difficult to do so, you can consult a nutritionist or personal trainer at the gym. So, hopefully answering your question.
