Hello, Thank you for the question.
Bitten nipples can cause nipple sores to appear. If this wound is followed by a secondary infection by bacteria, it can worsen and cause pus. The area around the breast can also become red, swollen, feel warm, and hurt. In even worse infections, nursing mothers can experience fever. If these wounds have been issued pus, you should immediately consult a doctor. The doctor needs to ask questions and answers to find out your complaints more fully and do a direct examination of your nipples and breasts to assess the severity of the condition before giving further treatment. Usually the doctor will give antibiotics which can be in the form of ointments or tablets to overcome this infection.
For the time being, you are advised not to breastfeed from the injured breast until the wound closes and heals because if you continue to breastfeed from the injured breast, the wound and infection can worsen. You can breastfeed from the healthy side of the breast. Even if you do not breastfeed from a sore or infected breast, it is recommended that you keep pumping the breast until it is empty so that it does not cause further infection. Breast milk produced from this injured breast should not be given to infants because it is feared to be contaminated with pus coming out of the nipple. In the meantime, you can clean the wound with clean water. Use a bra that matches your breast size, avoid using a bra that is too narrow.
Hopefully this information helps you.
