Ovarian Cyst Surgery Wound Feels Itchy?
why does my surgery scar feel itchy so much? It is 2 weeks that I am undergoing treatment after cyst surgery?
Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.
Ovarian cyst surgery is usually performed by making an incision in the lower abdomen. This incision can be quite large if the operation is performed by open surgery (laparotomy), but can also be small if the operation is performed using a special tube connected to a small camera (laparoscopy).
In general, the external wound from ovarian cyst surgery will heal within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. However, a wound on the inside of the stomach that reaches to the ovary can certainly require a longer healing time because of its significant depth. Therefore, in the first 1 to 3 months after surgery, you are not advised to do activities that can cause excessive pressure in the abdominal cavity and pelvis.
The itching sensation on the surgical scar is usually a natural part of the wound healing process and skin regeneration. As long as the itching is mild, and there are no other complaints, for example a swelling, redness, or abnormal discharge, your condition is most likely not dangerous.
However, if the itching is very annoying, you should still get it checked again by your gynecologist. It is feared that the itching occurs due to infection in the scar, or also due to an allergy that you experience due to certain substances used to cover the wound, for example bandages, bandages, and so on. The doctor will conduct a careful evaluation to assess what kind of treatment needs to be done. If there is no serious condition, the possibility of treatment will be given by administering anti-itching drugs that are taken directly.
Even though it feels itchy, you shouldn't scratch your surgery too much. Always wear comfortable, loose, and clean clothes and pants. Shower diligently and always keep your surgery scar clean. As much as possible, first reduce the consumption of foods that have the potential to aggravate itching, such as eggs, seafood, or nuts. Also avoid direct contact with certain substances that can make you allergic. It is not recommended to apply anything to the surgical scar, unless it is directly prescribed by the doctor who operated on you.
Hope this helps ..
