Hi Anjar, thanks for the question. Our respiratory tract starts from the nose to the lungs. The respiratory tract is useful to help us enter oxygen from outside into our bodies. The surface of our respiratory tract is composed of cells that can produce mucus and fine hairs (cilia). These two components are important in protecting our respiratory tract from the entry of foreign objects and infections.
Meanwhile, coughing is a normal reflex in the body to expel foreign objects in the throat. Certain conditions, such as an allergic reaction or an infection, will cause excessive throat mucus production and inflammation of the throat. This much mucus will trigger a cough. Here are some possible causes:
upper respiratory tract infections allergic reactions asthma pneumonia bronchitis tuberculosis pertussis Cough that occurs continuously in children aged 1 year is usually caused by an allergic reaction or irritation. Irritation or allergies that occur in the respiratory tract can cause excessive mucus production resulting in coughing. Children aged 1 year have a respiratory tract that tends to be more sensitive. This condition will cause the respiratory tract to be easily triggered by an allergic reaction when exposed to dust or cigarette smoke. But besides that, a prolonged cough can also be caused by an infection in the respiratory tract such as bronchitis or pertussis. We recommend that a cough that has occurred for 2 weeks immediately be examined by the nearest doctor to get further examination.
