Overcoming Dark Phobias In Yourself?
Hello doctor .. I have a dream to be a doctor too hehe … But I have a dark phobia. I heard that a doctor can’t have dark phobias. Is that true? : “
Hello Oyikk, thank you for your question to HealthReplies.com
When entering medical tests there are no tests for phobias (including dark phobias) and there are no rules that people with certain phobias may not enter medicine. However, to do some tests on patients when you become a doctor later sometimes needs to be done in a fairly dark room conditions (not dark dark), for example when having to do an eye examination. If you can tolerate a little dark conditions in the room, then there won't be any problems, but if your dark phobia is very severe it might disturb yourself later when practicing.
If indeed your phobia is very severe, you should check yourself by a psychiatrist first. Psychiatrists can help to overcome phobias with various therapies. The therapy that is most helpful in overcoming phobias is called exposure psychotherapy and behavioral cognitive therapy. In exposure psychotherapy, you will be exposed to what you fear repeatedly with intensity slowly increasing. For example you will be asked to imagine you are in a dark room first, then shown a dark room picture, until finally you will be invited to enter a dark room with a time that will be increased slowly too. Behavioral cognitive therapy will be carried out in conjunction with exposure therapy. In this therapy you will be asked to change the way you think, your feelings, your behavior towards the thing that you fear, until finally you can accept and deal with your fears in different ways.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
