Overcoming Pain In The Foot Used By A Long Thorn?
Hello doctor, my leg has been pierced by a thorn for a long time where the hole or wound where the thorn was in has been closed again. But when I walk or when the thorn lump is affected, it hurts. What actions are suitable for use? Thank you very much
Hello Cut Putro,
Plant spines or splinters are foreign objects that can pierce the skin. Foreign objects that appear on the surface will be easy to pull out, but if it goes deeper then it takes incision / surgery to explore the wound, look for the foreign object and remove it. Wound exploration done <24 hours after the incident will be easier because the entry wounds are still present and visible.
Organic foreign matter (such as plant spines) and dirty wounds can cause infection in the wound tissue if not handled properly. Organic or dirty foreign bodies that are left out will generally cause a reddish-like tissue reaction on the skin around the wound, feel pain, swelling, and may discharge pus. In some old cases granuloma lumps (due to inflammatory reactions) can form where the foreign object is located.
The action required is a doctor's first examination, including asking about the history of trauma and complaints that accompany the trauma and now. The doctor will check the condition of your feet and make sure that there is still a foreign object left in the foot tissue. If it is difficult to determine the presence or absence of foreign objects left from a physical examination, additional examinations such as X-rays or ultrasonography may be needed. When it is certain there is a foreign body in the foot tissue and its location is determined, exploratory surgery can be performed and the foreign object is removed. If no foreign objects are found from the examination, the doctor will look for other possibilities that cause pain in your feet. Thus the explanation from me, hopefully useful.
