amualaikum..doctor, I want to tell you a little about my child. Ansk, I am 3 years old, female, only 10 kg in weight, at the age of 3 I feel that my child has a speech delay, because of the characteristics that I have heard of, all of them are in my child..rn1. My child has difficulty communicating with children his age, shy, cowardly. Always emotional if he doesn’t get what he wants, sometimes he gets tantrums. It’s hard to communicate and can’t recognize colors yet. What I want to ask is… is it dangerous for its development? Can school therapy in PAUD be cured?

1 Answer:

Hi Aprile. In general, the stages of normal speech for children include:

1. Ages 0-6 months where children start with aahh-uuhh or known as cooing and children like to experiment with sounds around them such as gargling. By 6 months, children begin babbling with single syllables such as papapapa, dadadada, mamamam. Be aware when your child doesn't respond when called

2. Age 6-12 months where children begin to be able to say the words papa and mama, look when called, can obey simple commands. Be alert when facial expressions are lacking at 12 months and can't point fingers

3. Age 12-18 months children can nod and shake their heads to answer questions, vocabulary can reach 50 words by the end of 18 months of age. Beware of no meaningful words at 16 months

3. Age 18-24 months children begin to know more vocabulary and even have new vocabulary every day and can form 2 words

4. Age 2-3 years, almost all words spoken by children can be understood by other people and children can string together 2-3 words

5. Age 3-5 where children at this age can listen to stories and conversations around them and can say names, ages and at the age of 5 years children can already tell fluently about themselves

Speech delays in children can be caused by hearing loss, mental retardation, autism, previous trauma, especially if the parents push the child too much. What can be done is

1. Be diligent in inviting children to communicate

2. Diligently read stories and help children get to know the objects and colors around them

Consult with your pediatrician about the condition you are experiencing for more information. The following is about speech delay. Hopefully helpful, and thank you. Greetings, Dr. Alyssa
