I’m Astie, 22 years old, I have a lump on the left side of my neck, first I asked in this forum and immediately checked up about my condition. From the results of the ultrasound, it was concluded that the left thyroid nodule was goiter, some had cystic degeneration. For blood test results for this, the free T4 is 1.27 ng/dL 0.82-1.51 while the TSH is sensitive 1.41 uIU/mL 0.27-4.20. What I want to ask is what kind of treatment other than surgery? Can it be done with traditional medicine? For the medicine from the general practitioner who treats me, I don’t give any medicine.

Good evening Astie, thanks for asking at HealthReplies.com. From the results of your examination, it is stated there that you have 1 thyroid goiter or goiter which is located on the left side. A goiter is a condition in which the thyroid is swollen, and in some cases, a goiter causes symptoms that are so bothersome that surgery is needed.

In your case, with laboratory results that are still normal, and if you don't feel any symptoms other than the lump itself, it's actually not a problem if it's not treated right away. Even if your doctor decides to treat your adenoids later, they will not operate immediately, but use hormone-lowering drugs, hormone replacement therapy and or iodine therapy first. Only if after this therapy does not work or the thyroid enlarges too fast to interfere with breathing, surgical steps are taken.

In addition, you should consult a specialist in internal medicine so that your condition can be treated more thoroughly. If you are afraid of having surgery immediately when you consult a specialist, then actually the doctor can't force you to do anything. If you object to the operation, you can refuse. That's even if you are immediately asked for surgery. However, according to the procedure, you should be given non-operative therapy first.
